Professional Experience

Jennifer M. Rynell is a seasoned Dallas intellectual property litigation attorney and commercial litigation lawyer with more than 20 years of experience handling high-stakes patent, trademark, and copyright disputes. As a Partner at Wilson Legal Group P.C. (d/b/a Wilson Whitaker Rynell) in Dallas, Texas, Ms. Rynell represents clients across the DFW Metroplex—including Plano, Frisco, Richardson, and surrounding areas—as well as in federal courts nationwide. Her practice focuses on the prosecution and defense of complex IP infringement cases, business and commercial litigation, and strategic counsel for innovative companies in technology, software, energy, and consumer products sectors.

Before joining Wilson Whitaker Rynell as Partner in 2017, Ms. Rynell was a Partner at the intellectual property litigation boutique Shore Chan DePumpo LLP, where she managed all phases of complex patent litigation—from discovery and expert reports through summary judgment, trial, and appeal. She has appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, briefing and arguing patent appeals and mandamus proceedings. Her experience also includes International Trade Commission (ITC) proceedings, such as representing the California Institute of Technology in semiconductor/cell phone technology matters and successfully obtaining dismissals for clients in ITC investigations. Earlier in her career, she practiced at Bickel & Brewer, LLP and The Corea Firm, gaining broad litigation skills that complement her IP focus.

Ms. Rynell excels in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing business contracts, overseeing mergers and acquisitions, and handling general business matters—including employment agreements, cease-and-desist letters, demand letters, rights of publicity/privacy claims, and trademark portfolio management. She has assisted clients with patent and trademark prosecution, overcoming USPTO rejections, negotiating coexistence agreements, and enforcing IP rights through temporary injunctions and multimillion-dollar arbitration awards. Her track record includes forcing nonsuits of contractual and fraud claims, defeating motions to dismiss, and achieving significant cost savings for clients (including nearly $1 million in avoided taxable costs).

Recognized by peers for her exceptional skill, Ms. Rynell was selected as an Intellectual Property Litigation “Rising Star” by Texas Monthly magazine / Super Lawyers for seven consecutive years (2009–2015). She holds a J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law (2001), where she earned an academic scholarship, made the Dean’s List, and was a moot court semifinalist and coach. She received her B.A. in English, cum laude, from SMU (1998). Ms. Rynell is admitted to practice in Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas (with additional federal court admissions).
