John T. Wilson is a highly experienced Dallas intellectual property attorney and Board Certified Family Law Attorney in Dallas, Texas, serving clients throughout the DFW Metroplex including Plano, Frisco, Richardson, and surrounding areas. As Managing Partner of Wilson Legal Group P.C. (d/b/a Wilson Whitaker Rynell), Mr. Wilson combines over 25 years of sophisticated legal practice with a unique technical foundation as a former computer programmer and project management consultant at Dow Chemical Company. This dual expertise allows him to deeply understand clients’ inventive technologies and provide unmatched advocacy in patent and trademark matters.


Before establishing Wilson Whitaker Rynell in 2003, Mr. Wilson served in the legal department of Nortel Networks Corporation (Enterprise Division), worked as an associate at Jenkens & Gilchrist P.C., and advanced to Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property Group at the prominent firm Fish & Richardson P.C. A registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, his practice centers on the procurement, development, licensing, portfolio management, and defense of intellectual property rights—including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and software. He routinely handles complex intellectual property litigation, business and commercial litigation, corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, and high-stakes transactional work for startups, small businesses, and Fortune 200 companies. In addition to his intellectual property focus, Mr. Wilson is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He delivers skilled representation in divorce, child custody, property division, and family law litigation. His broader services also include business litigation, contract disputes, and business dissolution matters.


Mr. Wilson is an honored member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and has been repeatedly recognized as a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters.
